They found the ultimate truth
of the universe, but who would believe them?
Home sweet home (or Stars in their
eyes. part II)
The Commander asked his science officer when they would be back
in their own time and space continuum.
She said 'About thirty light years'
And how much longer after that before we get back home was his next
question.
She said that once they were back in their own universe - and if
they returned by an ovaloid, ecliptically anticlockwise route -
then according to Muneshynes theory of relatives they should be
landing at 15:30h GMT on the 1st of April on the day they left.
'In time for tea' interrupted the cook.
'Drinks first' said the communications officer. 'I'm dying for a
pint'
The Commander withered the two men with one of his best withers.
'How long will we be in hibernation?' he said.
The science officer tapped at her calculator. '650 trillion light
years, 4 days, 2 hours, 6 minutes, eight and a half seconds' she
said.
'Can't you be more precise?' said the navigator.
The Commander grimaced. 'Right he said let's get to it'
'But what are we going to say when we get back?' said the Chief
Engineer 'When we tell them our universe is contained inside the
leg of a kitchen chair they're not going to be best pleased'
'What do you suggest we tell them?' said the commander.
The chief looked thoughtful 'Let's tell em we had to come back because
of the food'
'Ere!' said the cook.
The Commander sighed 'If we lie they will suss us out in five minutes
so we tell the truth, that way nobody will believe us and everyone
will be happy'
'Good thinking sir said the navigator. 'Let's go home'
