Yellowstone National Park

Geysers

Geysers is what yellowstone is known for - and not without reason. Three quarters of the world's geysers can be found within this area. They are driven by the huge super-volcanoe that lies beneath the Park and they are a active- very active! Some spout hot water and steam incessantly; some vent themselves periodically (once or twice and hour, several times a day, every couple of weeks or months, or every year or so). Some lie dormant for several years then suddenly burst into violent wakefullness.

Steamboat geyser erupts frequently and has built up a characteristic cone around its vent.
Some geysers sent steam many feet into the air.
The cones on some look like classic volcanoes
Steady Geyser continously pours steam and hot water into the hot lake beside it.
Old Faithful, the most famous geyser in the world, attracts crowds all day long to witness its regular 90-minute eruptions (check the nearby Visitor Centre for the time of the next expected eruption)
This continuous sidweays-erupting geyser accompanies its display with a low belching sound.
