What did a mere woman know about golf; she certainly knew which way to look!

A wing and a prayer

She knew the Dr. and his friend, her own partner had let her down and she had paid the green fees so they invited her to join them.

It was at the sixth tee, 475 yards par 5. She was ahead by two strokes and 'doing the honours' as the good Dr. had put it to 'tee off first'

After they had taken their shots she moved away to find her ball and it was after this that the two men lost sight of her. They walked a line of trees looking but could find no sign of her or her golf bag; 'women' was muttered a few times.

Finally the two men returned to their game and played until it became dark and misty, by then the Dr. was ahead of his rival by two strokes.

At the inquest the coroner described it as a terrible tragedy and recorded all three deaths as accidental. The pilot had possibly died of a heart failure before the crash.

She had described to the coroners court how looking up from trying to find her ball, the plane had appeared out of the sun, swooping silently down the fairway at head height before crashing on the seventh green. The Dr. and his friend must have been oblivious of the glider until it was on top of them.

Nobody had asked her what the scores were at the sixth, if they had would she have told them about the Dr. knocking over his golf bag during her tee shot causing her to slice the ball into the rough! Or that glimpse of a smirk on his friends face….
