Yellowstone Area

GRAND TETON NATIONAL PARK

Grand Teton is a place of big skies and strikingly pointed mountain peaks. It is also a place of quiet glacial lakes (above right) ... but the glaciers have not completely gone from this area (below left). The Grand Teton National Park hosts a huge range of wildlife, from the Elk (below right) which are almost commonplace, to secretive birds and other creatures that you can only see with patience and a bit of luck. If you see a bunch of cars parked up by the road the chances are that a moose has been spotted; park safely, get out the camera and follow the crowd!

Jackson is the recommended place to stay overnight for a visit to Grand Teton. In winter it is a popular skiing centre south of the park, but it is easy to drive up from Jackson into Grand Teton and the town has many hotels, shops and eating places.
